TOPIC: Using Links Words such as Although, Even Though 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to:

  1. Read and understand passages containing sentences with more than one clause.
  2. Know the correct use of although, even though and because, etc.
  3. Use these in sentences of their own.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Course book
  2. Passage from other sources
  3. Substitution table on a board

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

PASSAGE ON THE LINKING WORDS IN THE LONG AND SHORT SENTENCE LINKING TWO SENTENCES 

EXAMPLES

1. He is poor.

He works hard.

He is poor although he works hard.

2. He was playful.

He failed his examination because he was playful.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Guides pupils to see and understand the connection between two short sentences to be linked;
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Read passage given by the teacher and make one long sentence from two short sentences and break long sentences into short notes.
  4. Discusses with pupils which of the link words ought to be used;
  5. Does several sentences with the class;
  6. Answer comprehension questions based on the passage.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson –
