TOPIC: Members of Community 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to mention members of the community.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

  1. Pupils’ textbooks.
  2. Pictures.
  3. Charts.
  4. Video clips.
  5. Drama of different communities.
  6.  Members of the class.

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

MEMBERS OF COMMUNITIES

  1. Father – head of the family.
  2. Mother – takes care of the family.
  3. Siblings – children in the house.
  4. Uncles – members of the family.
  5. Aunties – members of the family.
  6. Community leaders – Baale, Chief, Obi, Emir, etc.
  • In families – father, mother, children, uncles, aunts, cousins, grandparents, etc.
  • In communities, there are very many families as well as individuals. There are also leaders like Oba, Obi, and Emirs who see to the welfare of the community. We also have such leaders as chairmen of local governments and other government officials. 
  • In the school – head teacher, other teachers, the pupils and other people who help to look after the school, e.g. secretaries, gardeners, cleaners, and cooks.

PRESENTATION

  • To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
  1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
  2. Guides pupils to state in people in their house.
  3. Pupil’s Activities – Identity members of community – in the families, communities, schools, etc.

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – Rules in the community.

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to: identify members that constitute a community.
